Counseling

Anxiety, depression, anger, grief, hurt, marital conflict, mental illness and addiction— they all invite you to explore your story. They invite you to be curious about what has happened to you and examine how you have tried to cope. These coping efforts can help, but over time can become unhealthy. Engaging your story can lead to emotional health and hope for the future.

Your story matters.

Redemption Hill Counseling offers confidential, clinically-informed therapy for individuals and couples. Fees are below-market and vary according to clients' annual household income. Sessions are held in a dedicated and discreet location at the church building. You can send Chris a confidential email to schedule a session, or for general inquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need counseling?
Every human experiences a level of anxiety, sadness, anger, grief, hurt, relational conflict and unhealthy habits. Many are able to turn to family, friends, spirituality, pastors, self-help books, support groups, or classes for support. Counseling is needed when negative symptoms persist to the level of duress and begin to impair functioning in relationships, responsibilities or self-care.
What confidentiality do you provide?

Even though Redemption Hill Counseling is a church ministry, HIPAA standards are followed. Your personal health information and the content of sessions will not be shared by your counselor with anyone inside or outside of Redemption Hill Church without written authorization, except when required by law.

Do I have to be a member of Redemption Hill Church to receive counseling?

No. Redemption Hill Counseling is also available to regular attenders and anyone in the Richmond area, regardless of religious affiliation.

Can you help me find a counselor?

Yes. We can provide a curated list of counselors and psychiatrists with identified specialties.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. When in-person counseling is not possible due to schedules or location, virtual sessions can be arranged.

How do I help a friend or loved-one get counseling?

If they are an immediate risk to themselves or someone else, please call 911. Otherwise, send the Redemption Hill Counseling webpage or contact information to any adult (18+), and encourage them to contact us or schedule an appointment on their own. A parent or legal guardian can schedule an appointment for a child under the age of 18. Confidentiality between parent/guardian and child under the age of 18 will be discussed on a case by case basis.

How much do sessions cost?

Session fees are based on a client’s annual household income. As a non-profit organization, we offer counseling by a licensed professional well below market-based fees.  An individual session and a marriage counseling session cost the same.
